Non-professional Employment
A non-professional employment visa for fields like manufacturing, agriculture/livestock, fisheries, construction, and some services, arranged through the government Employment Permit System (EPS). The process runs under agreements with sending-country governments rather than individual arrangements. It is one of the most common foreign work statuses on Korean industrial sites.
Who it’s for
For foreign workers from EPS partner countries who go through the set process to take basic-skill jobs in Korea.
What you can do
In principle you work at the designated workplace/industry you signed a contract with. Changing workplaces is only allowed under set reasons and procedures, so check the Employment Center / HiKorea guidance first if you need a change.
Key points
- You enter and work through the EPS process rather than finding a job individually
- You work at the contracted workplace in principle; workplace changes have limits (reasons, counts, deadlines — numbers vary by policy, so verify officially)
- As you build skill in Korea, you can aim to transition to E-7-4 (skilled worker)
- New E-9 intake is run by the government/local authorities — private parties charging matching fees is illegal
- Details like stay and re-employment depend on your situation and policy, so official confirmation is needed
Transition paths
After working on E-9 and meeting skill/requirements, there is a path to transition to E-7-4 (not guaranteed). Gauge the transition score with the app's K-Point calculator. It differs in nature from short-term seasonal work (E-8).
