Income & Withholding Certificates

When applying for a loan, visa extension, or various services, you often need documents that prove your income. The two main ones are the income certificate (finalized annual income) and the earned-income withholding receipt (the wage income your employer withheld and reported). They serve slightly different purposes, so first check which one the requester wants. You can issue them free online on Hometax (web), Sontax (app), or Gov24, and also at self-service kiosks.

What to prepare

  • An identity verification method (joint/financial certificate, simple auth, etc.)
  • ARC (for in-person issuance / fingerprint check)
  • The exact year and document type your requester asks for

How to proceed

  1. 1Log in to Hometax or open the Sontax app (Gov24 also works)
  2. 2Choose ‘Civil certificates → income certificate / earned-income withholding receipt’
  3. 3Select the target year and issue it (save PDF / print)
  4. 4If online is hard, use a self-service kiosk or a nearby tax office / community center (via Gov24)
  5. 5You can also request the withholding receipt directly from your employer

Tips

  • Income certificates usually reflect income finalized ‘through last year,’ so this year’s may not appear yet (especially before the May filing).
  • The income certificate (combined finalized income) and the withholding receipt (your wage details from the employer) serve different purposes — confirm exactly which document and which year the requester needs.
  • Required documents differ by immigration office or lender, and some want a recently issued copy (validity window) — check ahead to avoid a wasted trip.
  • If it won’t issue or income looks empty, your employer may not have filed yet or it was omitted — check with your employer or NTS ☎126 (foreigners: English help ☎1588-0560).
